Based in a superb setting on the Thames at Chiswick Pier, Chiswick Pier Canoe Club was formed in 1999 and has over 150 members. It is a friendly club and new members are always welcome. The club has a good spread of ages with many adult members and youngsters from the age of 8.

The club is very active and a variety of disciplines are catered for including touring, white water (freestyle, river running and kayak surfing) and junior canoe polo - but we also welcome people who just want to enjoy being on the Thames .

The club has been helped and supported by Chiswick Pier Trust, Sport England, the BCU, Active Ealing, Hounslow CIP and the London Marathon Trust. We work with Kayackojacko -a local company committed to coaching excellence in many types of canoeing and this has helped us to expand our programme.

New members of any age (8 +) or ability are always welcome. Assistance is provided to take people as far as they want to go in different parts of the sport. We are committed to developing all aspects of canoeing and helping people to make more use of the Thames. Look under Cool Stuff to find photos of recent club activities and more.

Sunday sessions at Chiswick Pier run from 11am - 1pm. These usually involve a trip towards either to Fulham or Kew - depending on the tide. All abilities are welcome - although it's best to call first on 07933 276 792 to let us know you are planning to turn up. You could also join us on a Saturday pool session which 4.30 - 6.30 every week in Acton Baths, where you can meet some of our coaches and members and try a boat. We teach rescues, rolling and basic skills at the pool.

You may also like to join a beginners or an improvers course. See club programme for dates of the next courses.

Above left is the link for Active Ealing. It is the department in Ealing Council which encourages and provides opportunities for sport and physical activities. They run one of London's best sport development programmes -9 sports centres and an athletics track. They help clubs like ours to get started and develop. You can find out more about Active Ealing from their website. The link above right is for Awards For All. They provided us with some grant money to help our club grow to what it is now. The London Trust (centre) gave us a £7000 grant to buy boats and to fit a pontoon to the pier, which enables us to launch safely in any tidal conditions. Hounslow council also helped our club to get started in 1998 by giving us some kayaks.
